What is A.R.A.R.?

The A.R.A.R. (Rosario Rail Enthusiasts Society) is a private, non for profit organisation gathering those with an interest for rail transport, including students, advocates, modellers, train watchers, etc…  The Society was founded in 1974 and is registered by the provincial inspectorate for associations.  It is not subsidized and all activities are supported by the members´ fees.

While the meaning of railway embraces in its wide scope all railborne vehicles conveying passengers and goods, the A.R.A.R. also pays attention to other forms of public transport with electric traction, partticularly those which performed their duty in Rosario (i.e.: tramways and trolleybuses).  This is why it was one of the entities that in 1979 founded the F.A.D.A.R.T.E. (Federation of Rail and Electric Traction Enthusiasts Societies of the Americas) based in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The A.R.A.R. feels one of its purposes should be contributing to prevent the Argentina to remain detached from the redevelopment that Rail is experiencing worldwide and for this reason devotes a good share of its endeavors to disclose the virtues of railways so that people may learn of the advantages that is appropriate use will bring about.

At the same time that the foresight towards the future of railways is today more necessary than ever, the Society makes the preservation of heritage one of its mains commitments.  This is clearly noticed through the rescue and restoration schemes which are in progress, slowly but unavoidably.

The Society runs its own house organ, the “Boletín A.R.A.R.” which has been published regularly since 1984; at the same time, other publications are available while more are being compiled for future release.
